About Our Firm

Scott Estate Law

Scott Estate Law traces its roots to the law office of Doris P. Scott, a legal practice that has served Maryland families for more than 75 years. Doris P. Scott founded the original firm in Elkton, Maryland, in 1951, where she remained the only female attorney for the next 25 years. Mrs. Scott was eventually joined in the family practice by her husband Charles L. Scott Sr. in 1981, and her eldest son Charles L. Scott Jr. in 1985.

After practicing as a partner with a prominent downtown Baltimore law firm, David Scott became affiliated with the family practice in 2000 by opening a Baltimore office. As his parents grew older, David Scott transitioned his practice to Elkton, where he assumed and substantially expanded the firm's existing estate planning, estate administration, and elder law practice.

For many years, David Scott has devoted his practice primarily to estate planning, estate administration, elder law, and Medicaid planning, and continues to serve as Of Counsel at the Elkton Office.

Estate planning is not merely a legal formality — it is a practical and compassionate process designed to protect families, preserve assets, and prepare for the future.

Scott Estate Law concentrates its practice in estate and trust law, helping clients prepare wills, establish trusts, navigate probate administration, and protect assets from unnecessary taxes, creditors, and long-term care expenses. Our goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized legal guidance designed to preserve what matters most to our clients and their families.
